The Jozi Book Fair is back. This time at a new venue, the Ellis Park campus of Central Johannesburg College and the focus is on book clubs. JBF kicks off tomorrow, 26 September, at 9am with workshops, panel discussions, performances and exhibitions.

This year’s guest is author, playwright and painter Zakes Mda.

The idea to invite a ‘Guest of the Book Fair’ was first mooted at the second JBF in 2010. The role of the Guest is to inspire emerging writers, students, fellow artists and the public through their work; and also through various exposures such as conversations, workshops, seminars and debates with various constituencies and the public during the Fair.

Although, Book Lover’s Market will not be exhibiting this year, the publishing wing, Black Letter Media, will be represented in two ways. First, founder of Black Letter Media, duduzile zamantungwa mabaso, will be running a writing workshop as part of the JBF schools programme on Friday at 9am till 10:30am. Secondly, on Saturday at 12pm, in the K2 venue, she will launch the latest edition of Poetry Potion themed Words.

There is really not reason, apart from being far away, at a school that’s not visiting the fair or stuck at work, that you can’t come to the fair. Only R10 gets you in and you can stay the whole day and enjoy a feast of books with authors, publishers and other book lovers.
